On September 17 and 24, 2024, Cooperamos Fundación, in partnership with Nativa Comunicaciones, organized panel discussions on “Solidarity Economy, Grassroots Economy, and Education for Territorial Development” at the San Gil branch of the Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce. These panels brought together experts and community leaders to discuss strategies for sustainable development and the importance of the solidarity economy in the region.

Participants shared experiences and best practices, focusing on how to strengthen local capacities and promote social and environmental well-being. Among them were Dr. Mauricio Rodríguez, Director of the Solidarity Unit; Fernando Bragado, International Development Coordinator; Dr. Rocio Pilar Andina, Regional Coordinator for Aflatoun International; the San Gil Municipal Government; and other local organizations such as Fenalco Sur de Santander, SENA, and the San Gil Chapter of the Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce.

Today, the world faces numerous economic, social, and environmental challenges that call for innovative and sustainable solutions. In this context, the concepts of solidarity-based communities, the people’s economy, and education for territorial development have become fundamental pillars for promoting inclusive and equitable development. These three elements reinforce one another, fostering inclusive and sustainable development. Territorial solidarity is fueled by the popular economy, which in turn is driven by development-oriented education.

Building a community based on solidarity—supported by a people-centered economy and a holistic education system aimed at regional development—is an effective strategy for addressing today’s challenges. This approach promotes equity, social cohesion, and sustainability, ensuring that no one is left behind on the path to development.
