Caribbean Agroclimatic Bulletin - June 2025

The Agroclimatic Technical Committee (MTA) of the departments of Magdalena, Cesar, La Guajira, and Atlántico (MCGA), is a forum for dialogue and analysis among local, regional, and national stakeholders aimed at understanding potential climate patterns. It met last Friday, May 30, 2025, for its 90th session, held in a hybrid format (in-person/virtual), during which the climate outlook for the June–August quarter was presented.

Based on this information, the potential impacts and recommendations for the region’s various economic sectors were discussed.

Caribbean Agroclimatic Bulletin - April 2025

Currently, La Niña conditions are
weakening, and a transition to neutral conditions is expected in the coming months. Neutral ENSO conditions are forecast to persist through June–July–August, with a 62% probability.
During February, ocean temperatures in the equatorial Pacific have risen, although there was warming off the coast of South America. However, this warming is superficial and does not indicate a return to El Niño. Winds and atmospheric conditions continue to reflect La Niña conditions, but with a trend toward neutrality. For farmers, this transition may mean changes in rainfall patterns.

Caribbean Agroclimatic Bulletin - March 2025

Precipitation for March
A slight increase in precipitation is observed in several areas of southern and western Magdalena; however, in the northern part of the department, there are areas with a rainfall deficit, indicating a decrease compared to historical values.

In the case of Cesar, a moderate increase in rainfall is observed in several areas of the southern and western parts of the department.
In the north, some areas show slight decreases in rainfall, indicating variable conditions this month.

In La Guajira, increased rainfall is expected in the south and some central areas, with amounts 25 to 75 mm above average. In the north and along the coast, conditions
will remain predominantly dry, with little rainfall. In the northern Atlantic region, there will be less rainfall than usual, while in the southwest of the department, rainfall could increase slightly, suggesting that some areas will experience higher-than-average rainfall. March remains a transitional month, with some variations in rainfall distribution.
